Surfing is a surface water sport in which a person (the surfer) rides a board (the surfboard) on the crest of a wave as it carries the surfer towards the shore. Two major subdivisions within stand-up surfing are longboarding and shortboarding, reflecting differences in surfboard design including surfboard length, and riding style.
At GarkoFit we have developed program very specific for this sport. Dariusz Garko (GarkoFit Coach understand biomechanics, challenges & proper training progression in order to maximize conditioning for that exiting sport. He personally learn Surfing in Hawaii with Hanz Hedemann (surfing legend & top Pro-surfer).
Dariusz Garko” When I created Surfing Conditioning Training I used my experience in the water with Hanz & my Strength & Condition knowledge. Suprisingly the biggest physical challenge for your body is paddling ( muscular endurance for your Back, Shoulders & Arm’s), in the same moment your spinal muscle have to isomertically contract. Pop-up (explosive power – ab’s, hip flexors, chest, shoulders, triceps). Riding & making turns ( stability & balance, legs power endurance, explosive power of trunk & obliques).
Depend on the place you surfing you might need more endurance (more paddling) or more power ( bigger breaks) but bottom line is condition yourself for injury prevention & better performance.
